Big Question: Why Volunteer for My Wedding Weekend?

Why Volunteer during my Wedding Weekend?

My mother posed this question to me one day as to why I wanted to volunteer on my wedding weekend.

She was puzzled by my desire to wake up from my heavenly marital slumber to go and feed the homeless on a Saturday at 8:00 in the morning.  So, I decided to answer her question with a question. What better time to give love to those in most need than during the ultimate celebration of love’s gifts? If I have learned nothing else about love, I have learned that love is more about giving than it is receiving. Love is not a feeling, it is our actions.

Each day that I walk or drive down the streets of Atlanta, it is evident that what’s most needed by our homeless or poor men and women is love. Dozens of them surround my home, my work space and my parks. Each day  that I am forced to acknowledge their humanity and not their appearance, I am reminded that God’s love calls me to help and love them.  As I said, love is not a feeling, it is our actions.

Unfortunately, in today’s society, weddings have taken on a superficial meaning of glitz and glamour but too often fall short of capturing the true essence of God’s purpose for us to show our love because He showed us first.  As Troy and I begin to build the foundation for our new family we want our gift of LOVE to be our new family’s foundation and to share our gift with others. Please join us as we share our gifts and volunteer on Saturday, May 16, 2015 to feed the poor in our Atlanta community at the St. Francis Table. #loveinthefuture
